Chennai 601 301.

                                                        ENGINEERING GRAPHICS
                                                                         UNIT I
                                                                ASSIGNMENT I

1. Draw the locus of a point P which moves in a plane in such a way that the ratio of its distances from a fixed point F and a fixed straight line AB is always 2/3. The distance between the fixed point F and fixed straight line is 50 mm. Also draw a tangent and normal on a point on the locus at a horizontal distance of 55mm from the fixed straight line. (JAN 2012)
2. A circle of 50mm diameter rolls on a horizontal line for ¾ of a revolution clockwise. Draw the path traced by a point P on the circumference of the circle. Also draw a tangent and normal at any point on the curve.   (JAN 2009)
3. Draw the involute of a circle of diameter 50mm and draw the tangent and the normal to the involute at any point on the curve. (M/J 2009)
4. An inelastic string 155 mm long has one stone end attached to the circumference of a circular disc of 40 mm diameter. Draw the curve traced out by the end of the string, when it is completely wound around the disc keeping it always tight ( Wound Method).
5. Draw a hyperbola when the distance of the focus from the directrix is 70mm and the eccentricity e is 1.5. Draw the tangent and normal to the curve at a point P distance 50 mm from the directrix.(M/J 2012)
6. A fixed point F is 3.5 cm from a fixed straight line. Draw the locus of the point P moving in such a way that its distance from the fixed straight line is equal to its distance from F. Name the curve and draw a normal and tangent at any point on the curve.                                                                                                              (JUNE 2011)

7. Draw epicycloids of a circle of 40 mm diameter, which rolls outside on another circle of 150 mm diameter for one revolution clock wise. Draw a tangent and normal to it at a point 95 mm from the centre of the directing circle.

8. Draw a hypocycloid of a circle of 40 mm diameter, which rolls inside of another circle of 160 mm diameter, for one revolution counter clockwise. Draw a tangent and normal to it at a point 65 mm from the centre of directing circle.

9. A fixed point F is 7.5cm from a fixed straight line. Draw the locus of a point P moving in such a way that its distance from the fixed straight line is 2/3 times its distance from F. Name the curve. Draw normal and tangent at a point 6cm from it.

10. Draw an involute of square with side 35 mm. Assume a wire unwound from the square in the clockwise direction. Draw the tangent and normal at any point on the curve obtained.
